what i had for lunch

Wednesday, December 14, 2005

today my office threw an "employee appreciation lunch" which consisted of green salad with radish, carrots, cucumbers, croutons, and choice of house vinaigrette or ranch, meat or vegetarian lasagne, garlic cheese bread, cookies, and cheesecake bars.

i opted for the veggie lasagne, a piece of garlic cheese bread, salad with house dressing, and a cherry cheesecake bar (approx. 3 x 3 in). ice tea to drink.

it seemed like they didn't appreciate us very much because the veggie lasagne was bland and the garlic cheesebread was rubbery and not garlicky. and i felt ill the rest of the day.

Wednesday, October 26, 2005

i'm having the Bene! Gourmet pizza lunch deal which includes a fresh slice, your choice of caesar or regular salad, and a drink. i got the chicken pesto slice which includes chicken, pesto sauce, tomatoes, roasted red peppers, and fresh spinach. it really is delish.

Wednesday, September 21, 2005

I went back to Subway even tho I swore I wouldn't. I went with my dad and forced him to eat SunChips instead of potato. Also we cruised a house that seemed nice but turned out to be doo doo.

Friday, September 09, 2005

i went to jason's deli a couple hours ago and got the club royale sandwich. i've described this bad-boy before, but for those who don't remember, it's stacked ham and turkey on a buttery, flaky croissant, with bacon, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and a honey mustard spread which is the bomb. it comes with chips and a pickle spear. when i picked it up, i wish i'd gotten a cup of red beans 'n rice.

usually when i go to jason's, it's on a friday because fridays are casual, and i usually get a slice of cherry cheesecake. that is of course unless there's a cute chick taking the order, in which case i do not get a slice of cherry cheesecake because i feel embarassed ordering it. it just makes me feel like a pig ordering it for some reason. so today, no cheesecake. even though i was craving it like a madman.

Wednesday, September 07, 2005

I went to Subway and got a turkey and cheese on wheat. I searched forever for my sub card and then I finally found it and they said they stopped taking those.

Also TaTu was playing and they were singing a Smiths cover. There’s gotta be some kind of law against that.

Tuesday, September 06, 2005

I had to go bring a sample to a media company and ran into the owner of another media company I do some work for. He was on his way to get pizza with his company and invited me along. So I got free pizza. Which rocked.

it's hard to find an italian beef sandwhich in colorado. i know of two places that actually have them on the menu. today i went to one of them. it was hard to call it authentic cause when i asked for it "wet and spicy" the man behind the counter had no idea what i was talking about. just the same, the sandwhich was pretty good. the i-beef was well "marianated" and the peppers had some kick. i'd try it again just to make sure i really enjoyed the sandwhich and not the novelty of an italian beef in colorado.

Thursday, August 04, 2005

today is one of those few days that subway got it right: fresh bread, crisp and plentiful veggies, just the right amount of spicy mustard, you get the picture.

i got the usual: 6" italian b.m.t. on parmesan oregano bread, with provolone cheese, all veggies except pickles and banana peppers, one line of spicy mustard. sun chips and diet coke.

one of my new york city lunches was actually a 4 pm brunch because we slept in until 2 or something. the place was fucking awesome for brunch: they give you a choice of like 15 brunch menu items, plus four alcoholic beverages - choice of mimosa, straight champagne, bloody mary, or margarita. all this for $14.95! needless to say we got a little buzzed and then proceeded to stop at a bar on the way home for happy-hour peebers. this was on sunday i think.

Tuesday, July 26, 2005

Today I covered the Gift & Home show, which was much cooler than it sounds, and they had free media lunch kits. I had a tuna salad sandwich made with red peppers and some type of spicy mayo and capers. It came with greasy, green pasta that I ate anyway and a wonderful peanut butter cookie. I love free lunches.
I to Urban Burrito for a taco salad today. It's so much further from my new work. I miss being downtown. But the salad was delish.

Friday, July 22, 2005

I don't have very long for lunch so I called in an order for the Fiesta Grille and raced down the road to pick it up. I thought I ordered three tacos, and was surprised when it wasn't ready when I got there. So they ring me up and I realized the woman on the phone and I didn't understand each other and I ended up with 20$ of tacos and carnitas and beefy cheese dip. I didn't tell them the mistake, and stuffed my face all the way back to the office.
I went to fig with my dad. Ran into Heather there.

I had this carrot lemongrass soup and a salad with walnuts and goat cheese vineagrette and deviled eggs.

I was talking with my dad about how happy I am that 50’s food is so in vogue. ( had tomato aspic yesterday for the first time. Gag.) He said that in the 50’s when you went to a really nice restaurant you got a half of grapefruit and maybe some tomato juice. Sounds shitty, but I guess that’s why they were so much healthier than we are now.

Thursday, July 21, 2005

I started a new job so my lunches have been a little wonky as i get in the swing of things. Yesterday I had guacomole and chips and a banana, for example. Today I had spaghetti that I froze from about a month ago, the cafeteria spaghetti. The weird thing is that because of my new schedule, I now eat lunch at 3:00 EST. It really messes your mind up.

Wednesday, July 13, 2005

today i went to Bene! Gourmet Pizza. i'm eating it right now and it's quite the bomb. i got the lunch deal which includes a slice, caesar salad (or house but i always get caesar), and popsky.

my slice is the mediterranean pizza which is vegetarian and includes: tomato-basil (or sundried tomato sauce, i can't remember) sauce, mozerella, spinach strips, feta, olives, diced tomatoes, red onions, capers, and artichoke hearts. the caesar salad comes with a slice of red bell pepper and a lemon, and has just the right proportion of parmesan, croutons, dressing, and lettuce. and all for under $9.

Tuesday, July 12, 2005

i had my mid-year review at lunch today. we went to the mellow mushroom. the only negative comment i got was that they knew i needed some help and that i should just try to be a little more chill about getting work done and not get so stressed.

do you think that is why they took me to the mellow mushroom?
i had business meetings today so it was a ctered box lunch. i had a chicken pesto sandwhich, one of thos small bags of chips (plain, salted), a cookie (suger) and a coke.

Thursday, July 07, 2005

I got a taco salad from Wendy's. I went thru the drivethru. The total was something like 5.39 and I handed the guy $6.00 and he had the change ready in his hand. He was like: Aiaght you didn't think I'd be ready, didja? I was like: Haha, but can I have a straw?
just got back from lunch at new york deli news. casey raved about the corned beef & pastrami on rye, but i got the rare roast beef & swiss with tomato and lettuce on rye. it was a triple decker, the roast beef was delicious, and you automatically get a dish of pickle spears when you sit down, which i thought was the bomb. they have great mustard too, and you'd probably get cement slippers if you asked for mayo on the sandwich.
Last night Alison and I went out ti dinner to Cafe Parvaneh in Chapel Hill. Its one of those places you pass lots but never actually stop to eat there. It was delicious, and I had leftovers of my Curry Polo. On their web site they link directly to the Orange Co. Health Dept. web site, since they are very proud of their sanitation grade. I got totally grossed out over Vespa's rating of a mid-range B.

Thursday, June 30, 2005

i was going to bring a pb&j today but i woke up too late to make one, and yes i know that it takes like 2 minutes or less to make a pb&j but those 2 minutes or less are precious.

so i got quizno's and everytime i eat there i always wonder why. had the honey bacon club on wheat, sun chips, diet mt. dew. the diet mt. dew didn't do shit for a caffeine rush.
we just had ice cream sandwiches as a snack from the gas station. i had a neapolitan one. it was fabulous.

for lunch i had the crab cake salad at a locally owned restaurant called hot point. i went to lunch with 2 friends from high school. one just had a baby and brought it with her (real cute), the other is in the process of adopting a baby from china.

neither one of them had been to the locally owned restaurant previously.
Since I can't cook for myself, I went to Taco Bell and had a crunch wrap supreme and a chalupa and a club suprema gordita and a meximelt. Good thing I'm helping the local economy.
i went to my parents house b/c they had people over last night and i figured there'd be leftovers. i had some spanokopita and made a salad. there was brownies and i forced myself not to eat one.
yesterday we were so busy at work i had to go accross the street to wendys and pick up lunch for me and a bunch of co-workers. they forgot the light lemonade, a diet coke and a side salad. luckily they remembered all of the fries, regular cokes and cheese burgers.

i had meatloaf for breakfast today.

Wednesday, June 29, 2005

i'm eating a baja burrito from baja fresh right now. inside the tortilla: queso de jack, guacamole, pico de gallo, pollo. when i was putting some fresh medium salsa in the to-go ramekin i accidentally spilled it. i didn't clean it up because there was a huge line mounting behind me and nobody seemed to care. they just wanted their damn salsa.
Using ground turkey, I made spaghetti sauce last night with rice/potato/soy noodles. Those are much better than the brown rice noodles. The leftovers and the original dish taste exactly like school cafeteria spaghetti, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Tuesday, June 28, 2005

Today i went to this place called suzy q's on the 16th street mall. it has decent sandwhiches (i got the turkey bacon avacado) but on days like today it's their soft serve ice cream that really draws you there.
had tokyo joe's, the regular chicken bowl with brown rice, veggies, spicy-aki sauce. they totally skimped on the vegetables and i think automatically gave me the white chicken bowl, even though it is more expensive and i didn't ask for it. not that i have anything against white-meat chicken, i just don't like to pay extra.

Monday, June 27, 2005

i had a veggie burger at subway. i loaded it up with the pickled things like pickles, banana peppers and jalepenos. i had salt and vinegar potato chips on the side. later i felt i like i had been pickled.
today i went to quizno's. i had the classic italian sub. i'm not a huge fan of quiznosm, but today it happened to be convinient. in the paper last week was an article explaining how quiznos was the third fastest growing fastfood chain in the nation so far this year. it is a denver based company.
I went home and ate this frozen lasagna that had tofu instead of noodles. it was sort of good and sort of like chewing on rubberbands. also i had lo carb yoghurt.

Thursday, June 23, 2005

I have to go to sales training all afternoon today. They're bringing in lunch from nasty Atlanta Bread. I will have to eat a sandwich. What a waste of carbs.

Tuesday, June 21, 2005

I had too much to drink last night, so I had a combo # 6 from wendy's. it was very good.
i had beef filet and roasted tomatoes, peppers, onions and zucchini and garlic bread. i cut up the zuke, but the rest of the veggies were sliced up from the fajitas.

Monday, June 20, 2005

Megan went to get her eyes checked and picked us up some lunch on the way back. I got a grilled chicken salad that had a fruit salad thrown into it -- strawberries, blueberries, pineapples, oranges. With poppyseed dressing. It was weird, but good.

Megan had this asian apple salad, but there were no apples in it. Supposedly her dressing tasted like her own vomit, so she used some from the fridge instead.
I bought a pre packed greek salad from Ingles yesterday. It was delish. The dressing was like pizza place dressing, the kind thats like a bottle of dried oregano in oil. The packaging was the most incredible. The feta ( the kind with sundrieds and kalamata olives), tomatoes, and olives had little perfect compartments. It was great. And only something like 2 bucks.

Also i finished the other half of an Amy's Pizza.
left over fajitas that i made last night with left overs from a wedding my mom had on saturday. she had a fajita station at the wedding and all the ingredients sliced up all perfectly.
friday casey and i went to the hornet. the bartender and servers were all women and were all hottie bo-botties. i had the steak sandwich which did not have nearly enough steak on it. comes with red and yellow bell peppers and like this spicy chipotle mayo or something. the bartender told us to come back, she works every friday at the same time. so casey and i are going to go back and see if she really wanted us to come back and one of us get her number, or if she just wants tips.

i've really been into steak sandwiches lately. and steak salads, although not very many places have steak salads, and that's a shame.

Friday, June 10, 2005

naked fajitas!

ginni, you should submit you lunch wheel to this site

Thursday, June 09, 2005

yesterday i had a delicious lunch meeting. we had turkey sandwiches but the potato salad was alomst as good as elizabeths and the there was a mayo/mustard/garlic sauce that was served with it- it had the consistancy of mayo and was delicious. we also had a pyramid of chocolate mousse that went with it.

for whatever reason, i was STARVING when this lunch came and lost all manners. even though it was a work meeting. even though i am a fatty. these types of things generally prevent me from scarfing down my food in a major way.

i ate every bit of my food. even the starfruit garish. well, i did leave the edible orchid that was on my plate. but that was only because everyone made a big deal about how it was edible and the only way they knew it was edible was cause the MADE someone eat it the last time they had this lunch.

if they had not made such a big deal about it, i would have eaten the orchid too.

today megan and i went out to lunch cause we had to buy stuff for the jewelry for molly's wedding. we went to the rockford. we shared a side of marinated mushrooms. i had the chicken and prociutto sandwich with spicy, spicy mustard and a side of potato salad (not as good as yesterday's or elizabeths). megan had the pasta salad and a veggie sandwich that looked delicious but she was too busy eating it to share (just kidding).

megan gave me a zucchini from her garden that is at least a foot long and probably 3 inches tall. it is obscene.

Wednesday, June 08, 2005

left over pizza from anthony's. the closest you'll come to a NY slice in CO
I went with Neill, XY, Xy's mom and my mom to Early Girl. I had a salad and added grit croutons. Even tho theyre totally not SBD. Neill got the bbq chicken sandwich that I wanted so bad.

There was brandy peach cake on the menu for dessert today. I managed to live thru not getting it.

Tuesday, June 07, 2005

went to Porter's for lunch. i had the steakhouse salad which has smoked corn, potatoes, blue cheese, fancy lettuce, onions, and steak. it was delicious. we also split the thai nachos 7 ways as an appetizer. i am pretty sure i ate more nachos than anyone.

Monday, June 06, 2005

i had subway yet again, but it's becoming less and less worth it these days because colorado subways quit giving out stamps for free subs. same thing as always: 6" italian bmt on parmesan oregano, all veggies except pickles and banana peppers (or pepperoncinis, whatever you like to call them), a little spicy mustard, regular sun chips, diet coke.
we have a lot of interns and new employees that just started so they brought in lunch.

it was moes, which i generally HATE, but whenever they bring it in for lunch, they do a great job of bringing in stuff that does not suck.

i made delicious nachos. then i ate a cookie. then when i was helping clean up, i spilt the hot water from the chafing dish on my hand. it hurt, but didn't burn it really.

then i knocked over three plates that i was trying to throw away.

Saturday, June 04, 2005

its boring when we don't post.

i had a baked potato with sour cream and vegetables on it.

Friday, May 27, 2005

i had a half day at work today, so i worked from home for the first half of the day. i had a ham sandwich and vegetables for lunch.

Wednesday, May 25, 2005

I have been working on a story in the Mexican neighborhood, Pilsen, which has the most incredible food. The first time we had family style tacos served on corn tortillas. We watched them cook the meat and then they made a special plate for the gringos to taste which had pork, cow and goat. Today I had 3 bean tostadas that were perfect. It's a nice change from peanut butter and jelly. The salsa was the hottest I've ever had.

Tuesday, May 24, 2005

I skipped the end of the season soccer picnic, but ended up with the leftovers anyway. Stamey's bbq and slaw. I tried to eat another piece of the cake I made, but it smells like rubbing alcohol now and I think it fermented.

Friday, May 20, 2005

Megan took me to the Farmer's Market Restaraunt for lunch, and I had i giant half of chicken, hot & spicy bbq style, with squash & onions, and fresh strawberries. Megan had squash & onions, hushpuppies, a biscuit, a fried green tomato, strawberries, cucumber salad, and banana puddin. After we bought some produce. I wanted to get a bouquet of peonies, but they were 1.50/stem!

Thursday, May 19, 2005

I went to Wild Wing with MP. I had the buffalo chicken salad. Its fantastic. They have this incredible bleu cheese dressing that I just want to bathe in. Its basically salad with cheese and bacon and tomatoes and cucumber and grilled chicken in buffalo sauce( the vinegar based kind, not the thick kind.) Last time they put almonds on it on accident so I asked them to again. So delish. Mp got a quesadilla.

Thursday, May 12, 2005

so, what happened, was there some kind of depression style lunch shortage while I was out of the country?

We had a real deamy bbq work lunch today, except the dream was shattered slightly when I realized that they didn't bring the ribs (one crack in the mirror for me) and the mac & cheese (one crack in the mirror for Megan). I still had brisket and regular bbq salad and i snuck in some hush puppies and fried okra and am a total greaser but still. sigh. ribs.

Monday, May 09, 2005

went with the field crew today to panera. i got the half sandwich-half salad combo, the pepper blue steak sandwich and caesar salad. it was good and worth the money.

Tuesday, May 03, 2005

i'm going to try something a little different today and do a future lunch post. in approximately 13 minutes i'm going to take a company truck and drive to chipotle to meet my friend casey for shitty "mexican" "food". i will get the chicken fajita burrito and it will be satisfying at first, and by satisfying in mean filling because those bastard burritos are huge, but i will regret this decision to eat at chipotle later on today. i will also be tempted to get a chocolate chip cookie and will probably give in to the temptation because i've been doing that a lot lately.

i will take the company truck and tell the dude that drove us to the office, the bi-polar guy i work with out in the field, that i have to take the truck to meet my stock broker, which is not a complete fabrication because casey is indeed a stock broker, but he's also the lead guitarist in the nancy drews and we won't talk about stocks and bonds at all. oh no, we'll just talk band stuff.

beware of chipotle, it is an anal-annhilator, a colon-crusher, a rectal-wrecker.

Tuesday, April 26, 2005

I'm sneaking in a breakfast post today. I've been dying to go the the Western Steak House in Burlington, but we always thought it would be too expensive, or we were too dirty, etc. Its always packed too. I should not have worried. The inside is divided up into these weird rooms, probably 4 of them, maybe more, I couldnt see. Most of them are smoking, one small one is non-smoking. Its full of old people. I start to look at the menu, and for a second think i was given the wrong menu, an old outdated one. The M-F breakfast special is: 2 eggs, a sausage pattie (their spelling, not mine), biscuit or toast, potatoes or grits. $1.60. $1.60! I got that with potatoes and biscuits for Noah, and Noah got bacon, 2 eggs, grits, a side of gravy, toast, a side of tomatoes and we got two coffees. $7.25. We decided Burlingotn was a developing country compared to metropolitan NC.

for lunch I had a blt salad and megan had a garden salad and french fries. I stole a pickle from our boxes box, he went home sick earlier this morning and didn't eat his lunch.

Monday, April 25, 2005

dr pepper-free pizza with artichokes, ham and olives.

Thursday, April 21, 2005

There are long boring stories behind this one that I'm gonna spare you of this time, but I ate carrot sticks and Nut Thins with Red Pepper and Jalopeno Hummus.
i went with mp and his boss to this place urban burrito. there was some conversation about how annoying the name is since its out of town a little ways. the boss said it was in the suburbs, but id call that a stretch.

i had the taco salad which was delish. chicken instead of beef.

Wednesday, April 20, 2005

I made these sesame noodles (except they were really rice noodles with sesame oil) last night (as well as the asian slaw) and brought leftover noodles to work today. I also had these weird Rice Crips as a dessert. They seemed like smooshed rice cakes drizzled with sugar. They tasted like breakfast cereal. Megan had a burrito.

Tuesday, April 19, 2005

went to lunch with my dad at applebees. he had the chicken caesar salad, i had the tango chicken sandwich, note the pineapple on the side. always craving the allergies.

i liked mine right much- esp considering it was diet food. dad said that he thought i made a better choice and he would order what i got the next time.

he ordered the caesar salad because it was called the italian caesar salad and he wanted to get something italian in honor of the new pope. then they ordered a german pope! while we were eating lunch. our predictions were wrong.
same same as yesterday for both of us, except this time i brought more. And the UPS man gave us both a hershey's mini. it was slightly creepy, especially since he rolls up the sleeves on his short sleeve uniform to make it into a muscle shirt.

Monday, April 18, 2005

today i had leftovers from last week for lunch. mac and cheese and zucchini. then i had some cheese on wheat crackers cause i was still hungry.

last friday i went to el rodeo and had #25 and a margarita.

last thursday i went to neomonde and had beets, kibbeh, tuna salad and baba ganooj (i always forget how its spelled).

wednesday we had a lunch and learn so i had pizza and a salad.

i don't remeber tuesday or monday, but i think it is pretty impressive that i remembered that far back.
Wells Fargo. I got the mu-shu pork burrito wrap, side of lemon-pepper asparagus and a big blob of this brocolli salad with mayo, candied pecans, onions and bacon. The brocolli salad was terrific - the mu-shu was nastyish. I kept getting back into the leftover hoison sauce long after I finished until it made me sick and I had to chuck it. It still smells pretty mu-shu-y in this cube.

Total: $6.62
Last night I wanted to cook something in my new stove so I cooked a chicken. I have been roasting it this way for the past couple of months, but I also wanted to use this new vertical chicken roaster I got. Its from Seagrove and is a real pretty green blue. Similar in shape to this one, but with a much different glaze. It has a center part for liquid to steam it from the inside out. I used the recipe but altered it a little bit, putting more of a rub on the skin. It was very delicious and cooked faster than in a regular roasting pan (or so it seemed. Maybe because I wasn't opening up the oven door to baste it constantly it cooked quicker.)

I had the leftovers today, I didn't bring enough in and probably be hungry later but it was very good.

Megan had a very large vegetarian sandwich.

Friday, April 15, 2005

I went to my parents for lunch and before being shitty to the hockey players I had this great chicken salad. Im tooting my own horn here cos I made it and shrimp leftovers from dinner.

I had to schlep all the way to S. asheville to get the fat free/ sugar free pistachio pudding but it was worth it.
Wells fargo cafeteria with the same salad destination as yesterday. Checked out the hot food stand and it was breaded, but baked chicken w/sides and also a baked potato bar. (The baked potato bar has become so all-encompassing, you can even get fajita chicken on it now.) The fasting girl from yesterday insisted I try her biscuits, which had cheese, jalapenos and pineapples baked inside. This is where I got off the salad track.

We started to blab, and she insisted I buy a biscuit, even if I went with the salad over the chicken. I tried to tell her that for me, it was all or nothing, off/on, virgin/whore, life or death. There could be no salad with a biscuit. So I got everything. And it all hurt to eat because my teeth are falling out of my head.

Total cost: $5.25
Megan and I took off and went to Neomonde today. I waa real confused while trying to order and asked for grapes while I was trying to ask for olives. I had the sampler platter and it was pretty good, except i only had one potato in my potato salad. I also had cabbage salad chicken salad and stuffed grape leaves. Megan had fava bean salad and a grilled vegetable pita thing.

When we were walking up this mailman cruised by and part of his truck flew off.

i ate at my desk again today. i need to get out more. left over chinese food from last night. it was mostly sezchaun beef and white rice. lunch grade: C+
i ate at my desk today, again. i need to get out more. left over chinese food from last night. mostly sezchuan beef and rice. lunch grade: C+
Went to the Well's Fargo cafeteria like always, with salad intentions, like always. The skywalk between the main building and the baby building on the next block was reeking of bottled BBQ sauce and when I made it to the cafeteria, there was a choice of brisket or Caroline pulled pork.

Caroline?? That's even worse than Carolina-style. So I forewent the salad, like always, and loaded up on baked beans, brussel sprouts and a pile of pork. There was no slaw, but it still had to be more than pound of food. Sponsored the cafeteria girl 5 bucks towards her needy children fasting campaign, but then later found out it was only a 24 hour fast and felt cheated...
The company is sponsoring this seminar and the sponsors got taken out to lunch today. I really like the restaurant, but they have these awesome rolls with herb butter, HERB BUTTER that are so hard to resist. Anyway I did and I had the cobb salad. Which was totally amazing. It even had hearts of palm on it. But I didn't get to finish it cos this guy was talking to me so I put my fork down to listen ( rare, I know) and the waiter came up and stuck his hand on my plate and started to take it. I was too dumbstruck to stop it. Esp. since who wants it after his gross hand is all over it.

Wednesday, April 13, 2005

i'm back to eating lunch again.

today i went down to the convenience store in my new work building and purchased a handmade, mass produced burrito and spicy v-8 for lunch. i ate at my desk. i'm now snacking on potato chips. lunch grade: C-

Tuesday, April 12, 2005

sb and i went to cafe carolina for lunch today. this is one of my very favorite restaurants in the triangle. i love the pulled pork panini, i love the blue cupcakes, i love that the give cheese and pepper kabobs with some of the salads, i love the mango iced tea (unsweetened). i have recommended it to people and i frequently take people there when i meet someone for lunch or have to have a working meeting with someone.

today i got the half turkey sandwich, pretzles and a side salad. they no longer have the mango tea, so i got the regular unsweetened tea (this was a BIG disappointment). sb got the beef pot pie.

when i got my food the salad was ceasar instead of house. sb's looked only okay. i ate every bit of my salad and started to move on to my sandwich. at this point sb said that he was going to have to have a second lunch cause his was unsatisfying. sadly my the turkey on my sandwich was pretty much frozen when i took my first bite.

i made sb touch it, then i made him try it and he agreed it seemed frozen. we debated about whether or not i should complain and he got me with "they would want to know, you are helping them out in the long run." plus i had already eaten my whole salad which should have given it time to defrost.

so i went and complained. and the manager said that the reason it was frozen was because the turkey comes frozen and they just got new freezers. he didn;t offer me a new sandwich so i asked him if i could have another one. he asked me if i wanted ham and i said i would rather have chicken salad or tuna salad (the other options with the half sandwich meal).

so he then gives me a bowl of the chicken salad (but i had a sandwich). when i ask him if he wants my old sandwich (to throw it away), he says, no keep it, you can make your sandwich with the bread.

why would i want to use old bread that has been next to frozen meat?

so when i show back up at the table with my bowl of chicken salad, sb says "what is that? why do you have that?" when i explained the story, he said, "that's it- we are leaving. where do you want to go for lunch now."

so we left and went to qdoba. the other suggestion we had considered before we chose cafe carolina. for second lunch i had a steak quesadilla. sb had tortilla soup.

we did all of this in one hour.

my comments on the customer service: he should have taken my sandwich away immediately and then made me a sandwich of whatever i wanted. that would have been good customer service. the explanation was okay, but i didn;t really need it, i just wanted a lunch a could enjoy.

i will go back to cafe carolina again, but probably not as frequently and i probably won't chose anything but pulled pork panini again.
I had a taco salad from taco bell. i didnt eat the shell, chips, or salsa. I am suspiciously satisfied and full tho. I probably can't have it.

a week ago today i went to opening day baseball to see the rockies v. padres. i ate lunch at the ballpark, a footlong bratwurst with kraut and onions & peppers. the morons working the stand, they never drain the kraut or the onions & peppers before they slop it on the dog, so by the time i poured on the ketchup and mustard, the bun was soggier than shit, and soggy bread makes me dry heave. so the whole dog fell apart and i took a few bites of just the bratwurst, but then i threw it away because it just wasn't worth it, even though i paid $6.50 for the bastard. however at the bottom of the 8th i got a footlong rockies dog and just put ketchup and mustard on it and it was delish. so remember, always tell those foolios to drain the shit before they slop it on, if you're a kraut and onions & peppers kind of person.
went to baja fresh and had a steak fajita burrito. on the way back i got made fun of by one of my co-workers for not knowing that we are in zone 7 (zone 7b to be exact). he then told me he had a banana tree in his yard and when i asked if that was unusal for this zone he said "did you see any banana trees on the way to work?"

its amazing how people you like can get away with almost anything.

I had leftovers form last night's dinner. We had chicken thighs and scalloped potatoes and gorgonzola broccoli slaw with bacon crumbles. I had this friend who loved hooters wing sauce and finally she badgered the restaurant enough that they told her their secret sauce was just texas pete and butter. I don't know if that's true or not, but its really a delicious way to cook thighs. we browned em in the butter texas pete sauce, then transferred them to the grill, but it was taking too long, so switched them to the oven. The skin was especially delicious.

today we went to bella monica for lunch. on the way in a co-worker and i got in a fight about vector vs. raster files. when we sat down. one of my other co-workers identified the font that was used on the menu. on our way out, we were surprised when the manager/owner walked up to me and asked us if we worked at an ad agency. he said he pegged us because of the font talk and the bag that i was carrying. none of us could determine whether or not this was a compliment. the food was delish. i had an eggplant parm sandwich. i love eggplant, even though i am allergic to it. i think that is what makes me crave it.
went to baby moon again today, but this time with a whole different set of co-workers. 3 out of 4 of us ordered the herbed chicken sandwich. when the food came they brought 1 chicken club and 2 herbed chicken sandwiches. since the guy with the club had the same side i ordered i became convinced that he had my sandwich- why else would he have gotten his one different sandwich when all the people with the same one as me had already gotten their sandwich. so i demanded that he switch with me. when he did i realized the sandwich looked exactly the same as the one that i had before (but a little less delicious looking). they gave all 4 of us the same thing.

luckily the guy was a total trooper and just ate the wrong sandwich- even though the waitress offered to fix him another one.
went to babymoon cafe for lunch today. got the eggplant sandwich. 2 of my other co-workers got the same thing (sb and jg- jg is a freelancer and does not work with us that often).

i foolishly ate the piece of cooked cheese off the end of my sandwich first. as soon as i did it, i realized i ate the best part of my sandwich first.

so i turned to the co-worker (jg) that had a delicious bite just like mine and said: "i don't mean for this to sound creepy, but i want to watch you eat that bite."

there is no way that that can NOT sound creepy. and this was the second time i have ever spoken to him. and everyone heard. and they all agreed. i am a total creep.

but, the flip side is this: he let me and everyone else at the table know when he got to the bite. he saved it for last and he admitted it was the very bext part of the sandwich.

sometimes you can't take back the things you say, no matter how hard you want to.
I went home for lunch and had a lean cuisine pizza, and a yoghurt. Then I got back to my desk and ate a pnut butter clif bar.
This is a boring lunch, but it's depressing to see no updates.

I had the veggie mezza platter from Riyadh's. It has tabouleh, hummus, falafel and bab ghanooj, but i always get double tabouleh and cut out the baba ghanooj 'cause I f'ing hate eggplant in all forms.
I wanted Wendy's chili, I really did. But I couldn't get over the finger story, and I couldn't do it.

I had to rewrite a story with my friend Paulo so he brought lunch to my place today. We had basamati rice with black beans and sauteed collard greens. The greens were the best part - done Brazilian style in olive oil with garlic. They kept some texture and were part crunchy. Screw vinegar - it's olive oil from now on. We had Girl Scout cookies for dessert.
I had leftver chicken from the crockpot, sorta of chinese fast food tasting. pretty good. It was a brown sugar/soy sauce garlic sauce. With brown rice and cantaloupe. Megan had a bowl.

a piece of cheese toast on some bread I made and some chips and salsa.

Wednesday, March 16, 2005

I went to taco bell and got a taco salad and nachos. The lady at the drive thru called me out like a little bitch. She was all: where have you been! I havent seen you inawhile!

I dont go to Taco Bell THAT much!

PS: I know I'm not the only one who eats lunch!

I went to try out this new mediterrainean restaurant today. I really wanted stuffed grape leaves. It turned out to be a little buffet, the kind that goes by wieght like in the city. I doubt that will last long around here but the food was great. They didn't have stuffed grape leaves but I asked about them and they got me some all special. I should've gotten two pieces of baklava.

Wednesday, March 09, 2005

I went with an old client who ended up being my friend to Doc Chey's. We had veggie spring rolls and I had pad thai. It was delish . But this dude from her work and a big fat client sat showed up there and sat at the next table. There wasn't much room for the fat guy and he kept getting up and putting his butt right in my face.

Tuesday, March 08, 2005

i basically ate all day. including some veggie chili with rice, a waffle, a thai noodle bowl, and a sesame tamari rice cracker. and a mr. goodbar.

Monday, March 07, 2005

today was my glorious and triumphant return to american fastfood -- DEL MUTHAGRUBBIN TACO FOOLIO!!!

got the same shit i always do: 3 chicken soft tacos, 1 bean & cheese burrito con green sauce, medium coke.

Friday, March 04, 2005

I made Megan eat a pupusa instead of eating oatmeal. I'm pretty sure she was wanting her oatmeal. I had one pork one and one meat taco.

Wednesday, March 02, 2005

I made wayyy too much rice last night so I ate rice salad for lunch today. It was good, but i'm worried about having to eat it for dinner too.
i had this lo fat frozen pizza that was supposed to not be disgusting. but instead, it was disgusting. i mostly ate cookies for lunch.

Tuesday, March 01, 2005

i was just at the covered market in pest, where i bought some absinthe among other novelty gifts. but i ate lunch there, too, and had this hungarian dish of sausage, potatoes, peppers, and some other shit that tasted real good. i got a beer and baklava as well. the baklava was just ok. it cost 1150 forint, but all i had were two 1000 ft. bills, and the lady didn't have enough change so she spared me the 150 forint, which is just under one u.s. dollar. i don't think she liked doing that, but it's her fault for not having sufficient change in a busy-ass marketplace. TA-DOW, HOW YOU LIKE ME NOW?!

Thursday, February 24, 2005

I went to lunch with my old office ladies and got a supreme amount of gossip. we ate at the twisted fork. I got the steak salad. Overpriced.
today dragan and i went to eat lunch at this family's house out in the stix of croatia. they're pretty poor, like a lot of people, but they still spared no expense and pulled out all the big guns: orange fanta, bbq pork, homemade sausage, fresh killed chicken, fresh bread, and leetle tiny peekles and hot peppers. i had turkish coffee afterwards with a little sugar. by interpreting through dragan, they said next time i came over, they'd make rabbit.

Wednesday, February 23, 2005

I get so hungry so today I ate the same lunch twice. I had it at 11 and 1. Sloppy joe filling and blue cheese slaw.
MP called to see if I wanted to get lunch. We went to my house since I happen to have a lot of food. He explained all about the Palastines to me while we had half a chicken salad sandwich, half a turkey/jalepeno montery jack/ spinach sandwich, tabuoleh, the rest of the bleu cheese cole slaw, fritos, and cookies. I made powder lipton tea since I love it, and he only scoffed a little.

Thursday, February 17, 2005

I met Lauren at Souper Salad for lunch. It’s one of those big city places all salad bar with grody pasta salad on it that you eat anyway. They also had this peach cake and lemon poppy seed bread today. I ate more cake than salad. But come on! It’s cruel to put cake on a salad bar!

Tuesday, February 15, 2005

went to Qdoba for lunch today. i got the Seasoned Shredded Beef Burrito. when i paid i got one of the New Oral-B Brush Ups as a sample.

when we got back to my office i sat at my desk and used the brush-up. cause yo uknow, you are supposed to be able to use them anywhere- even the subway (which i think is totally disgusting).

there was one thing that i did not consider when i started fake brushing my teeth at my desk. i gag, literally, out loud every single time i brush my teeth. apparently i do this with brush-ups too. i know all my cube neighbors heard it. but no one said anything.
I went to that pepuseria and i'm so glad aI did. I got one cheese pupusa and one pork & cheese. The slaw for the top was very delicious and they had a side of hot green sauce. i'm going every day.

Wednesday, February 09, 2005

I had an AAAC related lunch meeting at Doc Chey's. I had the fakey white people pad thai. Which was delish. I think Doc Chey's is a really tex mex sounding name for a noodle house.

virginia and I ate at the Raleigh Neomonde, but were constantly confused about whether things were the same or different from the Cary location. I had the sampler platter with potato salad, stuffed grape leaves, cabbage salad, and chickpea salad. Thanks to the beautiful weather (65 and sunny with blue skies), we got to eat outside. Everyone there was drinking diet sodas.

I passed a Pupuseria on my way back at the corner of western, hillsborough, and jones franklin. I love Pupusas and am looking forward to going there for lunch ASAP.

while i was in san angelo, texas, i saw this place called whataburger. i thought to myself that it'd be hilarious if i had a burger from there one day and after the first bite or two look up and exclaim, "what a burger!". so i convinced my colleague to have lunch there on saturday. the employees didn't seem very happy to be working at whataburger, but my order went through and i finally sank my teeth into the loaded burger after much anticipation. i raised my eyes slowly to chris and said "what a burger!". it was somewhat anticlimactic. i got the double-decker badboy, and it was very salty and greasy, but still edible. i will not go back to whataburger.
The temp was out this morning so i just ate a snack of a frozen dinner figuring i'd leave for a real lunch when she came back, but instead she just took the day off. So i'm screwed, since I'm here starving and she's out living it up in the beautiful sunshine.
I went up to my parents and ate super bowl leftovers. Mostly cake and chili. but also taco dip.

I brought a bunch of stuff here for the operators cos my mom made me. but i didnt really feel like doing it.

Wednesday, January 26, 2005

For a lunch meeting I ordered the tailgate special # 1 from the Q Shack through Raleigh Take Out. The meat (ribs, brisket and bbq) and hush puppies got high marks, but the sides (slaw, tater salad, and baked beans) left something to be desired. I'd do everything exactly the same again though. there wasn't a whole lot of complaints from the staff. It was 15 minutes late. Next time I'd order a large side of Mac & Cheese for Megan, because I think all the potato salad had meat in it.

Wednesday, January 19, 2005

we were set to have a lunch and learn today on brainstorming. since its my real birthday, i got to pick my favorite pizza for the meeting. i picked banana peppers and pepperoni combo. then a meeting in the conf room ran over so they had to cancel the lunch and learn.

so we all got free pizza with no learning.

and to top it off, its snowing! we are going sledding in a little bit.

got me a little tokyo joe's action cuz i'm trying to eat healthy these days. no mt. dew, either. straight up high-quality h2o. the regular chicken bowl with brown rice, veggies, and spicy-aki sause seems like a relatively healthy thing to eat, and it's not expensive to boot. so go grab yourselves some tokyo joe's; you'll be glad you did. i know i am. glad, that is. i was trying to sound like i was a famous person giving a testamonial on the a.m. radio.

Thursday, January 13, 2005

since my office moved i was hoping i would have all kinds of cool new places to eat luch, so far that hasn't really happened as I am a despicable creature of habit. However today i went to a new place with my Dad. It's called the Ghengis Grill. It's was a pretty good mongolian bbq. A little on the pricey side for one bowl and it made my tummy rumble a bit afterward but overall it was really good.

Wednesday, January 12, 2005

Today megan and elizabeth and i went to the NC MUseum of Art to see the Matisse, Picasso and the School of Paris exhibit. while we were there we ran into my aunt ginny. which was funny cause she lives 2 hours away in winston-salem.

afterwards we went to wendy's to have lunch. megan and elizabeth both had the taco salad, but since megan is a veggie, i ate her chili. for my sandwhich i had a freschetta sandwich- which is not even on their Web site. my sandwhich was on ciabatta and had basil pesto mayo, turkey and red peppers. it also had lettuce. it was actually pretty darn good.

there was a customer there that looked like a cross between bob camicia and ken fowler. megan and i loved looking at him because of this combination and because he seemed to be very kind. he was smiling the whole time he was eating his lunch - which was really nice. then we were astonished when he got up and left his tray and trash on the table.

I went to taco bell for the second day in a row. Yesterday I was "good" and had the salad. Today I was not so good and had a 7-layer and nachos supreme. I had big designs on not eating it all. But then I did anyway and topped it all off with a truffle. cough.

Friday, January 07, 2005

i just went to einstein bagel bros for the last freaking time. those a-holes gave me chips instead of the potato salad like i asked for (i did the drive thru so i didn't realise in time), and last time i was there i waited in line forever only to have them mess up my order completely, and then when i told them i didn't order what they gave me, the chick gave me guff and was quite rude. they're always rude at einstein bagel bros and the sandwiches are sub-par in my opinion.

three very delicious black bean and sweet potato tacos. Megan had a burrito.

from the jack daniels grocery & deli I got vegetable beef soup and a salt and pepper potato chips. They spell meat "meet" on their take-out menu. I didn't tell them.
